The Gaelic Poets

We have lived too narrowly
And sung to one sense
The lyric
Short and intense

And we have loved
The unfleshed woman
Till God had wished us
A little more human.

Too pure, too cold
For the sensuous spread
Of Epic
Our race has uttered

The crystalline song
Of unfallen men…
In the unchaste fields
Let us sow again.
